Tiger Woods Announces the Passing of His Mother Kultida Woods: 'She Was My Biggest Fan'

Tiger Woods has announced the heartbreaking news that his mother, Kultida Woods, has passed away at the age of 81. The legendary golfer took to social media on February 4, 2025, to share the sad news with his followers.

"It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. My mom was a force of nature all her own, and her spirit was simply undeniable," Woods, 49, wrote in a touching tribute.

He continued, “She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, and without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you, Mom.”

Kultida was most recently seen at Tiger's TGL match in South Florida, just days before her passing. She and Tiger’s father, Earl Woods, were married for 37 years until Earl’s death in May 2006. While Tiger’s father was in the military, Kultida was the "enforcer" during Tiger’s upbringing.

"My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him,” Tiger once said in a 2017 interview. “My mom’s still here and I’m still deathly afraid of her. She’s a very tough, tough old lady, very demanding. … I love her so much, but she was tough.”

Kultida was a constant presence in Tiger’s career, often seen supporting him both on and off the golf course. She was by his side at the 2022 World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony and was known for her signature oversized black glasses and visor.

The matriarch was also credited with encouraging Tiger to wear his iconic red shirt on Sundays. Although initially skeptical, Tiger began wearing the power color after losing two junior golf tournaments in blue, later attributing his hot streaks to the red shirt.

In 2009, Tiger remarked, “You should always listen to your mom,” underscoring his belief in her instincts.
