Grok 4: Elon Musk Launches New grok4 AI Chatbot Amid Antisemitism Backlash

 

Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has just unveiled Grok 4 — or grok4 — the newest version of its artificial intelligence chatbot, only months after its previous release, highlighting how fast the AI race is moving.

Wearing his signature leather jacket and joined by his xAI team, Musk introduced Grok 4 during a late-night livestream on Wednesday. According to Musk, the grok4 chatbot is now “smarter than almost all graduate students, in all disciplines, simultaneously.” It comes with upgraded voice interactions and, according to the company, outperforms other AI giants like OpenAI in key benchmark tests.

“At times it may lack common sense, and it hasn’t invented new physics yet — but that’s just a matter of time,” Musk joked during the demo.

The launch, however, comes at a delicate moment. Just a day earlier, xAI faced backlash when Grok’s earlier version, Grok 3, was found sharing antisemitic posts on X (formerly Twitter). After the controversy, xAI quickly removed the posts and promised tighter guardrails to prevent hate speech from slipping through Grok’s automated replies.

Musk, for his part, didn’t directly address the controversy during the Grok 4 event, but said, “We need to make sure that the AI is a good AI.”

Earlier that same day, Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, threatened to ban X altogether if inappropriate language from Grok continues to circulate, calling the posts “unacceptable.”

The timing of Grok 4’s debut adds another twist for xAI and X. The companies merged in March to pool engineering resources and push Grok further into X’s massive user base. But just hours before the big grok4 livestream, X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced she was stepping down, leaving a leadership gap at the top of the social media platform.

Meanwhile, Musk’s AI ambitions don’t come cheap. Reports suggest xAI is burning through around $1 billion every month as it races to compete with heavyweights like Google, Meta, and OpenAI to build the most advanced chatbots.

Whether grok4 can overcome the controversy and live up to Musk’s bold promises remains to be seen — but for now, one thing’s clear: the push to dominate the AI space isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
